The clinic highlights 'hot topics' in Indian country and brings in panel discussions on Indian Education For All, Montana State Superintendent Denise Juneau's Native American education program. Description: Elrae Potts and Roger White Jr. of AlterNATIVE come on the show to discuss tobacco education along with Trace Wellman, Blackfeet Junior Powwow Princess. Potts and White have been doing work on Indian health and tobacco prevention in Missoula with the Montana Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council. Jodi also asks them about their work with youth, including a meeting of over 90 Native youth they called a GONA, or Gathering of Native Americans.

Description: Dr. Arne Vainio is an Ojibwe physician who works on the Fond du Lac Reservation in northern Minnesota. He joins Jodi here to discuss his work in Native American health, but also tells the story of how his trajectory in life changed as he began to come into adulthood on the reservation. Soft spoken and serene, his stories of alcoholism, suicide and tragedy bring perspective to the conditions Indians face on reservations today. Tribal Scene Radio Episode 1

Description: In March of 2009, Native American music and news were scarecely heard on the radio in western Montana. This likely prompted Gary Farmer and journalist Jodi Rave to make this youtube video when he visited the University of Montana campus. The staff at KBGA (the college radio station for UM) was not intentionally denying access to Native Americans; the two parties had simply not communicated up to that point! Needless to say, better communication led to what has become a fantastic collaboration between Jodi and the KBGA staff. Since then, Tribal Scene Radio has covered an impressive number of topics in Indian country, including this first interview in which Jodi clears up any misconceptions about the public's access to the university radio station. Listen as Jodi speaks with media activist and actor Gary Farmer on this topic as well as his non-commercial radio and television work in the United States and Canada.

Ryan James and Julia Maes - Somewhere Along the Line

Tangled up in broken-hearted woes and such? Wallow further in the sadness with the painfully pure and serene ballads of Ryan James and Julia Maes. Bred in Ellensburg, WA, these two high school chums have been playing together for years; their complimentary voices intermix like old friends throughout these dramatically dynamic songs and are liable to conjur images of country livin', up-ended bottles and bittersweet love.

Recorded in one all-night session at House of Watts in Missoula, MT. Limited copies of this disc were distributed to friends and family in Montana, Washington and Arkansas. You can listen to tracks on Myspace (Ryan and Julia also perform under the name Sober Enough to Drive). Songs included from this recording are: Call Them Off, Coal Country, Step Right Up, Hobo Song, Cassiopeia, The History of Everybody, Git Your Boots On.

Julie & the Wolves - Free Love

Three young folks came into the studio on a Thursday morning to eat cinnamon rolls and record an EP's worth of live material with accordian, ukelele and lightly brushed drumming. Julie and the Wolves weave delightful harmonies with softly spoken lyrics ranging from le fromage to fat cats. At times, the songs truly are sublime with their golden, sunny timbre and delivery.

This disc was released during Total Fest X in Missoula, MT. No overdubs were made in the recording of Julie and the Wolves. Album art was fashioned by Derek, who also played drums. Hear select tracks from this session at Myspace. (Twenty-Six, Cheese Song, Two Fat Cats)
